Te Whare Tapa Rima - The five-sided home

The learner support model combines Mason Durie's original Whare Tapa Whā model, and Moeau's addition of 'Taha whenua', to become the Whare Tapa Rima. This model supports understandings of human well-being by representing a whare/home. A whare has five dimensions when viewed from the front, the foundation, two walls and the two pitched sides of the roof. At Taraua College we believe that each of the 5 dimensions are linked, and our young people need support in all areas to achieve to their potential. We look at each of the dimensions as the following:
