Excellence, Involvement, Respect
Embarking on a science course in a New Zealand high school is an enriching and exciting journey! With a curriculum designed to foster curiosity and critical thinking, students engage in hands-on experiments, field trips, and cutting-edge projects. The supportive and innovative learning environment at Tararua College offers opportunities to ignite a lifelong passion for discovery and innovation in all areas of Science.

Our Junior Science programme provides the essential foundation for students to explore the world around them and prepare for specialized senior pathways.

Our Year 11 students are offered a choice of Science classes based on their future pathway. Different classes offer a mix of internal and external assessments or internal only assessments. Each class offers a pathway that can take them into any of the Senior Science classes.
At Year 12 and 13 students have a choice of specialising in any or all of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Each specialist subject is taught by a specialist teacher. Many of the classes participate in field trips, hands-on experiences, and special events.
Science is an important part of providing students with the best foundation to make their future pathway choices. We regularly participate in various high-level events:
Each of these opportunities provides enthusiastic students with the opportunity to see what they can do and where they can go.
